McNeill wrote the original edition before HIV was discovered and I don’t think he modified the book a lot in the second edition, in which he talked about the HIV epidemic. When he addresses some of the influences that resulted in the spread of HIV, I don’t think he emphasises the influence of behaviour enough, although he does mention it.
